This is a website about gift ideas for dad, but I have to talk about this product – the Eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 30 Robot Vacuum Cleaner – which was actually a gift I bought for my wife. An important note: guys, don’t ever, ever gift your spouse with a regular vacuum. The only appropriate vacuum to buy as a gift is one that requires no actual work – a robot vacuum.

My wife was thrilled to receive the Eufy RoboVac 30 for Mother’s Day this past year. It was simple to set up, has a sleek design, and very user friendly. The best part is that it isn’t as expensive as others on the robovac market. For as much as I hear about how pricey some of these robot vacuums can get, I felt we purchased a powerful vacuum without compromising. And, let’s be honest, a purchase like this is one less chore for us to worry about helping around the house on the weekends.

So, how do we rate the features and benefits, the pros and cons, the likes and dislikes of the Eufy RoboVac 30? Let’s break it down for you…

The Robovac for Families on a Budget

If you’ve been shopping for a robotic vacuum cleaner for your house for a while, you’ve seen just how much some of these cost. Sure, you get a lot of features and gadgets and an app with some of them, but when all you really need is just a little help picking up pet hair, crumbs around the dinner table, some litter around the litter box, or just whatever might be on the floor, the Eufy RoboVac really gets the cleaning job done at a reasonable price. For our family, we are on a monthly budget. But we also spoil ourselves from time to time, and obviously a robot vacuum isn’t a lifestyle necessity. But when I splurged on this, I knew I didn’t need to break the bank for one that still wouldn’t produce at a level I’d want. For just over $200, we got a high performing robovac that does just what it says it will do.

Intuitive Remote Control

No, the RoboVac 30 from Eufy doesn’t come with an app. But, honestly, do you really need another app on your phone? The remote control allows you to select different cleaning modes and cleaning patterns for your floor. Or you can just hit the START button and off the Eufy robovac goes. You can set a timer to make sure it cleans only at night when you’re asleep so you’re not stepping around it during the day. There are directional controls so you can help point it in the right direction and over particular areas.

Cleaning Power

There are two power settings to choose from: Standard and BoostIQ. The boost gives you extra suction power which is great for high trafficked areas or for carpet too. Although we’ve only used the Eufy RoboVac 30 a couple times on carpet, we haven’t really seen the need for it. For a mid-level robot vacuum, it handles any surface really well.

Boundary Strips

This Eufy robovac does not memorize your rooms or your floor plan. It just runs. So in order to keep it away from certain areas of your home, it does come with some magnetic boundary strips. You simply apply these boundary strips with double-sided tape to your floor making a perimeter around places you don’t want the Eufy to clean. For example, we put strips around our dog’s food and water bowl area. The RoboVac 30 also comes with drop sensors so it can tell it’s about to fall off the top step. It will turn around on its own and carry on cleaning.

Battery Life

The Eufy RoboVac 30’s rechargeable lithium-ion battery gives you 100 minutes of cleaning before it needs to charge up again. What’s nice is the RoboVac 30 will automatically return to its docking station when its battery gets too low (another thing no to worry about)! 100 minutes might not seem like a long time, but it provides a lot of time to clean around your floor.

Beyond Just a Basic Robot Vacuum

In the end, I’m incredibly happy with this purchase, and so is my wife. With pets and messy kids we have crumbs and dirt and who know what everywhere. Our Eufy RoboVac 30 is getting plenty of use, and we no longer lug our large vacuum up and down the stairs (we keep the Eufy as the primary vacuum for the ground level, and our Dyson upstairs). If you’re on a budget but want to treat yourself to the prestigious life of robot vacuums, this one is quiet, tested, affordable, and just what you want.

The Pros

  • Performance: The Eufy BoostIQ RoboVac works well. The brushes sometimes swipe debris away – rather than sweeping them into the vacuum – but upon a second pass, most everything is collected.
  • Volume: The Eufy BoostIQ RoboVac is not too loud. In fact, our pets and kids like it and sometimes chase it (unlike the Dyson large vacuum, which the dog and one of our kids sometimes fear).
  • Ease of Use: There aren’t too many buttons on the remote or really anything complicated about setup. You can expect to take the robovac out of the box and get it up and running within a few minutes without being too tech savvy.
  • Timing Capability: I liked that this robovacuum had a timer that could be set for daily cleaning. Setting it for the middle of the night ensures we wake up to a clean floor in the morning.

The Cons

  • Regular Dustbin Emptying Required: This would probably be true of any robotic vacuum, but we have to empty the dustbin after just a time or two of using it. Granted, we do have a lot of pet hair, crumbs and dirt that gets tracked in, but a slightly larger dustbin for more cleaning runs would be nice.
  • Boundary Strips Visible: There are thick, gray strips that you can place around places you don’t want the robovac to go (for example, around a pet’s water bowl). These strips work well to stop the vacuum from getting too close, but the stickiness wears away over time, leaving the strips to slide around the floor. Also, they are kind of an eye-sore. Not a big problem, but something the programmable robo vacuums typically don’t require.
